Since 16 November 2020, the Economic Development Board of Mauritius has introduced an administrative change for non-residents who wish to come to Mauritius to discover and prepare for their settlement: the Long Term Tourist Visa, or “Premium Travel Visa for Long Stays”.
Valid for a period of one year, renewable, this permit is mainly aimed at tourists, retired or professionals wishing to come with their families and carry out their activities or work remotely, from the island.
According to the EDB guidelines, applicants for the Premium Visa must present the following documents at the time of their application and arrival:
- a valid passport
- a copy of your return flight tickets
- a passport size photo
- travel and health insurance covering the entire period of your stay
- proof of sufficient funds to support yourself and your family during your stay, such as a bank statement
- a valid email address
- a reservation for quarantine and the post-quarantine property you may book Here
And meet the following prerequisites:
- To have their main business, source of income and profits outside Mauritius;
- Present the required evidence in their application file, in order to justify the purpose of the stay, accommodation, etc.;
- To comply with other basic immigration requirements as well.
However, the premium visa can be converted into an occupation permit. This makes it possible to set up for commercial activity, investment or for retirement.
On the other hand, with a Premium Visa, already being on the island, you are able to visit at your own pace and acquire THE property under one of the special schemes, the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS), the Real Estate Scheme (RES), the Property Development Scheme (PDS) and the Smart City Scheme (SCS). The R+2 is also an option allowing a foreign buyer to own a property in a building with more than 2 floors.
By choosing to spend a minimum of 183 days in Mauritius, under certain conditions, you become a tax resident and will be subject to income tax which is 15% on any income in Mauritius.
The application is made on the following site: EDB Premium Visa Application
