The French describe their ideal home in Mauritius

The French describe their ideal home

As time goes by, tastes and needs change, so every 5 years a well-known real estate company draws up a sort of portrait of the ideal house according to the French. To better understand their expectations, 3,600 people agreed to answer a series of questions, the answers to which were used to draw up an interesting sketch. In broad terms, the perfect home should be quiet, practical, bright, welcoming and secure.

Cosy with a human dimension

Calmness, a must-have

The first thing to remember, the ideal home must be cosy, with a human dimension. Moreover, according to the results of this study on real estate, 58% of the French preferred individual housing in 2011 compared to today’s 71%. Respondents also emphasized their preference for green spaces and individual rooms, especially for children, so that everyone can keep their privacy.

Quietness and peace of mind are two other essential elements, which can sometimes even surpass the price! Indeed, the study highlights the need for security with regard to the property. Statistically speaking, 20 % of respondents are concerned about security installations, compared to 4% in the previous survey. Why is that so? As individual housing is in high demand, it is important to protect the inhabitants as much as possible.

Practicality

In a town or village, 38.4% prefer pavilions. If previously floors were preferred, today, only 5% of respondents would willingly turn to such constructions. Single storeys are becoming more attractive, while houses with at least two floors seem less and less appealing.

Changing Needs

Brightness within dwellings tops the demands of the French. This need is probably explained by the lack of sunshine experienced in the French capital city over the past years. For instance, the newspaper outlet Le Monde reported on the 17th of January 2018 that “January is generally a poorly sunbathed month, but that of 2018 was even less generous. Thus, in Paris, where the norm is 62 hours and 28 minutes of sunshine, the capital city only received 37 hours and 48 minutes (which amounts to 39.49 % less).”

Another interesting point is that the garage has also become a must in the last five years, with 62% of the French considering it important, if not essential! This response is even more surprising given that only 21% of respondents in the last survey considered this element to be necessary.

With an average of 7 hours of sunshine per day, political stability, a welcoming population and spacious and well-equipped properties, Mauritius is the ideal destination for French people wishing to invest in or rent accommodation that will perfectly meet their needs.
