From a society where they were confined to the home and legally restricted, they have become key players in politics, business, and real estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Progress is undeniable: today, women are elected officials, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors. However, the fight for full equality is not yet over. This journey, marked by significant victories, reminds us that each generation of women has contributed to building a fairer future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The early struggles: From the shadows to the light<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the colonial period, women\u2019s rights were almost non-existent. The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Napoleonic_Code#:~:text=The%20Napoleonic%20Code%20(French%3A%20Code,frequently%20amended%20since%20its%20inception.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Napoleonic Code<\/a><\/strong> (1808) governed their lives, placing them under their husband\u2019s authority once married. Women were not allowed to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u274c Open a bank account without their husband\u2019s consent<br>\u274c Work without their husband\u2019s permission<br>\u274c Inherit property under the same conditions as men<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite these restrictions, women resisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Agricultural workers, who labored under harsh conditions on sugarcane plantations, played a key role in trade union movements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anjalay Coopen, a dedicated worker, became a symbol of the fight for labor rights. In 1943, she was killed during a strike, becoming an icon of female resistance.
