If you are feeling a little overwhelmed by the multitude of things to do, or don’t know where to start, don’t worry. We will provide you with the essential steps you need to take to start your new life with peace of mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Getting your license<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The first crucial step is to obtain the right permit for your new life in Mauritius, whether to live, retire or work. To do this, you will need to contact the Economic Development Board (EDB)<\/a><\/strong>. It is advisable to start this process online even before you arrive, especially for work permits. Once the agreement in principle has been obtained, you will need to make an appointment with the EDB and go there in person to present the original documents required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Register with your embassy<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Most foreign nationals can register with their country’s consulate or embassy in Mauritius. The purpose of this is to register different nationalities with the authorities in their country of origin, so that they can benefit from additional assistance and protection should the need arise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Register children at school<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        If you are planning a family expatriation to Mauritius<\/a><\/strong> with school-age children, school registration takes place once you’ve settled in Mauritius. However, we strongly recommend that you get in touch with the schools that interest you, and even reserve places well in advance of your arrival on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          It is strongly recommended that you open a local bank account as soon as you arrive in Mauritius, to make it easier to manage your finances on the island. Expatriates can choose between a resident or non-resident account, depending on their specific needs. To make it easier to verify the origin of funds in a Mauritian account, it’s a good idea to opt for a local bank with financial links to your home country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Several international banks operate in Mauritius, including SBM Bank<\/a><\/strong>, MCB<\/a><\/strong>, AfrAsia Bank<\/a><\/strong>, Bank One<\/a><\/strong>, HSBC Bank<\/a><\/strong> and many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          To open a bank account, you’ll need several documents, including your passport and visa, proof of address less than 3 months old, a certificate showing the origin of your income and your residence permit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
