Occupation permit holders are now allowed to have their parents reside in Mauritius as dependents.
The holder of an occupation permit and a residence permit may now apply for a permanent residence permit if he/she keeps his/her occupation permit for 3 consecutive years.
The holder of the occupancy permit, who has held the permit for 3 consecutive years is eligible for the 20-year permanent residence permit.
In Mauritius, the fiscal year begins on July 1 and ends on June 30.
Foreign investors can acquire the status of “tax resident” if they choose to expatriate for more than 183 days (conditional) of the tax year on the island.
Mauritius has signed a non-double taxation agreement with 46 countries, resulting in a list of tax policy benefits for foreigners, including:
A 15% income tax applicable only to foreigners residing in Mauritius for a minimum of 183 days per year and recognised as Mauritian tax residents;
Rental income taxed at the ordinary tax rate (15%);
No down-the-line inheritance tax;
No real estate capital gains tax in case of a resale;
Absence of any property tax, housing tax, local tax, etc.;
In French tax law, a real estate investment in Mauritius escapes the real estate wealth tax “Impôt sur la fortune immobilière (IFI)” which replaced the wealth tax “Impôt sur la fortune” (ISF) since January 1, 2018
